Metabolic Syndrome and Cogntion

Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is defined as cluster of five cardiometabolic disease risk factors namely, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dylipidemia, and obesity. But do the MetS components produce linear effects on cognition, or certain combinations of MetS components have more pronounced effect than others? Currently, I am looking into the effect of MetS on cognition by looking into variety of factors ranging from sociodemographic, clinical, cognitive, blood biochemistry and MRI in community-dwelling rural cohort of India.

Menopause and Cognition

Menopause is one of the contributing factor which increases the risk of cognitive decline in women. What is the minimum threshold or years of reduced estrogen exposure due to menopause produces cognitive changes? Currently, I am looking into effect of endogenous estrogen on cognitive in post-menopausal women by looking into their WM microstructure integrity using DTI, in addition to structural and functional connectivity in community-dwelling rural cohort of India.

Social Network and Cognition

Engaging in social acitivities and relationships can enhance cognitive reserve and theoritically delay cognitive decline. What characteristics of social network is beneficial? Is it network size or diversity? Currently, I am looking into cognitive, clinical and neuroimaging based evidences to differentiate the role of social network characteristics on cognitive performance in rural aging Indians.

Efficient 3D MRI Transformation

In absense of labelled/annotated MRI data, 3D CNN can be difficult to train. What if 3D MRI images can be transformed into 2D slice while retaining the information? Currently, reviewing literature and replicating various transformation techniques. The goal is to build a library of various 3D transformation techniques and compare the efficiency of each on CNN models.
